The PASS method is a simple way to remember how to use a fire extinguisher effectively. Here’s what each letter stands for:
- P – Pull the Pin:
- Pull the pin located at the top of the extinguisher. This pin prevents accidental discharge.
- A – Aim the Nozzle:
- Aim the nozzle or hose at the base of the fire, not at the flames. This targets the fuel source.
- S – Squeeze the Handle:
- Squeeze the handle or lever to release the extinguishing agent.
- S – Sweep Side to Side:
- Sweep the nozzle from side to side, covering the area of the fire with the extinguishing agent until the fire is extinguished.
Using the PASS method ensures that you use the fire extinguisher effectively and efficiently to put out a fire.
